Hey everyone!!

Pffff I've been so busy that Im almost thinking about quitting everything (know that feeling?)

ANYWAY!

Ive been acting ridiculous lately. Ive been shopping online like crazy - clothing, books, electrical equipment... I tried to order this Conair curling iron (after a month doing research on which curling iron was the best at actually curling your hair and trying not to destroy it in the process) on the US Amazon site... NOT POSSIBLE! Apparently, they don't ship electrical equipment to the Netherlands - which sucks. So I've found this other site, www.drugstore.com which actually carried the same iron and was so kind to ship it to the Netherlands. May I remind you that I actually really did research on the iron - what kind of plug it had (US), whether I needed a voltage converter (no) etc... So yesterday was the most amazing day that the curling iron finally arrived. So I enthusiastically got my adapter, and guess what???!? IT DOESN'T FIT!!! OMG after so much delving into the whole world of curling irons (yes, it is a whole world on its own, trust me a.k.a. curling iron researcher)... Gladly I know this amazing, and I say AMAZING electrical equipment store in Amsterdam where you can walk in, say what's up, and they'll have a solution in like 1 minute. I love love LOVE those people over there. So the guy there said, girl, it was not a good idea to buy an US curling iron online - and I was like, seriously, you have no idea how much better this curling iron is going to be than any of the brands that they sell here (they suck) so I had to. So we had this funny situation of an electrical equipment guy who thinks omg this is probably the most shallow girl ever, and me - yes I admit being shallow at that specific moment - ANYWAY. He said: you need a converter, and I said, ow no I don't - it said so on the website. He goes: you need an adapter - and I was like, uhhhh yeah that's why I am here. He sells me a so-called polarized adapter (he explains why, I don't listen because I only care about the fact that this one DOES fit) and he looks at me with this look on his face like... yeah I can't explain. I thank him and go. Anyway, THAT was me being the shallow girly-girl.

Anyway, back to the international law of state responsibility...

Hi there!!

I've been soooo unactive lately! It is because I have been (ehhh I still am) busy with too many things! I'm in my VERY last semester of uni - trying to set up a LLM thesis - I'm enrolled in 3 classes which take up a lot of time unfortunately, I've been working a lot at the law firm and as a research assistant at the uni (deadline for the research is THIS sunday) and next to all of that I've been volunteering at the Voedselbank in my area of the city each thursday, which is an organization that gives out free foodpacks to people who are in a difficult economic position AND I have taken up guitar lessons. Next to that I also want to try and have a social life hahaha. So yeah.

By the way I have started a new blog too - which is about my tragic love for fashion - if you want to check that one out.

I'll be back though!

xoxo

Why?
Tell me, why do I have to write such assignments?

The system of the ICTY has been described as 'adversarial', 'mixed' and 'sui generis'. Your paper deals with one of the following questions (edit: thanks for letting me choose a subject myself...):

- 'The adversarial system of the ICTY has incorporated some elements of the inquisitorial system. Describe some of these elements (referring both to procedure and the daily practice of the tribunal) and indicate why these elements have been added.'

- 'Which system (inquisitorial/accusatorial/mixed) would, in your view, fit best to meet the aims of international criminal justice as embodied in the ICTY? Why?'

Submission date: 31 January 2009

LOTR
So 1,5 week ago I bought the LOTR Extended Version dvdbox - and since I have watched ROTK 1 time, TTT 2 times and FOTR 1 time - they are around 4 hours each, so I've spent 16 hours watching LOTR... Ouch! I guess I have to much free time on my hands... One more week of LOTR and I'll honestly start thinking that I live in Middle Earth myself. Ugh I need LOTR-rehab! :(

So I was browsing my 2nd favorite site in the world (after livejournal OF COURSE), the urbanoutfitters site - drewling over stuff that 1. I cannot afford, 2. cannot even be shipped in my direction, 3. is making me realize how much I want to go back to the US and see my friends blahblah you get the idea. Anyway...

Back in 2004 there was this huge drama about an UO t-shirt. Remember those shirts which said "everyone loves an italian girl", "everyone loves an african-american girl",  "everyone loves a catholic girl" ETC ETC ETC. Well, there was also an "everyone loves a jewish girl" - however, the text was surrounded by dollarsigns...

Here it is:

A huge outburst of indignation followed, and led to the discontinuation of the production. Now, when you google "everyone loves a jewish girl" and look for pictures, the ones you will find do not have the initial dollarsigns on them, but bubbles or little hearts and stars - the shirts which were probably produced after the discontinuation of the production of the first shirt. If you want you can google for example "Urban outfitters shirt jewish" and get lots of hits about this particular issue (newspaper articles etc).

Today, I've found this shirt on the site:

http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?itemdescription=true&itemCount=10&startValue=51&selectedProductColor=&sortby=&id=15593601&parentid=W_APP_TEES_GRAPHIC&sortProperties=+product.marketingPriority,-product.startDate&navCount=84&navAction=poppushpush&color=

What do you think?
Looks like UO is looking forward to another discussion on this particular topic... so let's discuss whether it is appropriate or not.

So I'm competing in this thesis competition.... And I just saw my name on the website:

http://www.parool.nl/parool/nl/1044/Nationale-Scriptieprijs/integration/nmc/frameset/deelnemers-scriptieprijs-2008.dhtml

The winner wins like 3500 Euros and the best 8 get an article in newspaper the Parool.
So many theses though... and one girl actually wrote about approximately the same subject... Not good.

Yay it's December!!! Ok well only 15 minutes now, but anyway - I love December! Shitty things - like after paying the rent and my high credit card bill due to all the moving expenses I don't have any money left till the end of the month, or, I have again, done pretty much nothing for either my classes, nor my research assistant work with only a few weeks before the tests and deadlines - don't seem to matter anymore! It's December, yay! Only 25 days till Christmas guys!!

/uber optimistic mode to ignore problems due to lazyness and spending too much.

Hi everyone!

So this month has gone by so fast... the 1st of October I got my keys to my appartment, which we have been working on for the last 23 days... Also, this week I had three exams, plus a friend from Chicago came over and crashed at my place - and then, all of a sudden... someone I hadn't seen for such a long time announced he was in the country and he wanted to meet up - so I was like, screw those exams - and we had a great time, but now I'm kind of sad he left again. Anyway... my appartment is almost finished! So here are a few *intermediate* pictures:

Livingroom... I <3 my furniture... :)

I've always wanted a pink kitchen!

Exam chaos - this is going to be better I promise :)

My bedroom :)

So yeah the third pic is a bit boring and chaotic because of my exams... Despite the lack of effort I put in studying the last weeks, I think I might have passed two exams, the other - I definately failed - oh well... there's always the next semester :) Today I had to be woked up by my alarm at 6.45 - instead it woke me up at 7.20 --- I had to do everything in 15 minutes so that I wouldn't miss the tram to the exambuilding - scary shit since there's always a little chance (how little it may be). Now I'm all spacing here because of the lack of sleep the last week(s) so I'm gonna sleep in the whole weekend and monday, stay in bed, watch movies and series in bed, chill out, visit some museums and just stay in the chillzone altogether ;) Starting now, bye!

Has anyone ever told you you have pretty eyes?
Yeah I have green eyes with brown kinda dots

Name something great that happened to you today?
I received an 8 for a hard assignment for which I sacrificed my whole weekend, plus I talked to my best friend on the phone

Who was the last person's voice you heard?
My mom's

Have you ever passed out on the bathroom floor?
Hmmm no, but I once passed out in a hospital - the nurses put me in a wheelchair and thought I was anorexic (I was just very thin back then)

Do you like your life as of now?
My life's not how I want it to be yet - but once I move to Amsterdam, things will probably get better.

Do you crack your knuckles?
Hell no.

What were you doing 20 minutes ago?
Having dinner and watching tv

Does anyone call you babe?
The last time that happened was in the US this summer.

Who's car were you last in?
Our fabulous rented white convertible Chrysler (in the US)

Last thing you drank?
Lemonade

Have you ever thought about getting your nose pierced?
Yeah way back when I was like 15

I cannot wait till the 1st of October :)

Yes, my best friend.

Haha no.

Hmm no I don't think so.

How many red lights have you ran?
Maybe 1.

Is there anything that you are craving right now?
For my headache to stop!

Do you drink tea?
Yes

Is anyone on your bad side right now?
Yes - my IR teacher who said he would leave me a examination note and he didnt and now I cannot compete in the thesis competition in which you can win like thousands of euros - arghhh.

What jewelry are you wearing?
My Forever 21 earrings - they sell great stuff, wish we had them over here. And the ring I got from my parents when I graduated, the other ring I got from my mom that she got from her parents, and a little turqoise bracelet I bought from a Native American woman in I think Albuquerque, NM.

Do you clean when you’re upset?
No, when I'm upset I tend to go and lie in my bed, watching series and stuff.

Does your phone ring in the middle of the night often?
Sometimes. I was called by a guy once who called me at like 3 AM because I was invited (and I accepted) for a group on the dutch version of facebook which was called 'You can call me at 3 AM in the night' and back then my profile was public and I had my cell on it - yeah I left the group.

Would you ever dye your hair blonde?
Yeah so I tried that when I was like 15 because I wanted to look like the girls from All Saints (may I remind you again that I was 15 and they were my idols kinda) and so yeah it was pink and then orange, and then I had to go to the hairdresser and get henna put in my hair - because it could no longer be saved.

Who do you spend your nights with?
My pink flamingo :)

Have you done anything you regret in 2008 so far or messed up?
A few small things - said a few stupid things plus I regret one big thing, but when I come to think about it, it probably wouldn't have helped eitherway.

A legging and a black dress with cute ankle boots

My mom

Do you get distracted easily?
Depends what I'm doing.

What is the last thing you did before you went to bed last night?
I watched episode 4, season 4 of Prison Break (I download the US episodes because I'm way to impatient to wait for the dutch television to broadcast them... they're at like season 3 I mean com'on)

Is it easier to forgive or forget?
It is easier to forgive, I never forget things. I sometimes hold grudges.

Are you a jealous person?
Sometimes.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes - been there done that.

Would you rather go camping or to a five star hotel?
Depends on the situation. I don't really like camping, but I'll do a hostel or motel - fine with me.

How is the relationship between you and your parents?
Usually good, sometimes not as good - let's say it's great I'm moving out :)

What was the first thing you did this morning?
Being pissed that it was already 7AM

What is your current mood?
Pissed that it's 9.30 PM and I have to read like 17 ICCPR cases before tommorrow and I'm somehow on LJ, filling in this survey.

Do you think you have made a difference in anyones life?
Not sure. I bet I made a difference in my parents life though.

Do you have a best friend that starts with the letter S?
Yes, myself :)

Do you talk to your pets?
Yes, and regardless of what people may think or say, my cat understands me and talks back :)

So yeah, since you're reading this, you probably read my desperate attempt to find someone with a whole lotta knowledge about the ICTY and intercept evidence. Today I got my assignment back (clap clap for the teacher as the grading usually take soooo long at the UvA...) and I was utterly surprised that I received an 8... I mean - I totally didnt get the assignment - or at least I thought I didnt. Ok, the guy next to me got a 9, and the girl next to me a 8,5, but there were also a lot of 6&7s. Eitherway, the teacher told us it was meant to be extremely difficult and that he wanted to 'test' us or whatever. Last year people dropped out because of the first assignment.. The people who 'didnt get it' got like a 6 or higher anyway (for trying?). I'm relieved I at least tried, because this weekend I was seriously thinking about dropping the class or whatever - thinking I must be really stupid or something. Anyway, YAY!

Yesterday I signed my contract for my appartment in Amsterdam - I AM SO EXCITED and cannot wait another day, but yeah I have to wait 14 :D. From the 1st till the 8th I have no obligations at all, no work, no classes (oops, almost forgot about my student assistent work..) - just painting and buying stuff all day - sounds great to me. A lot of friends offered to help, so I think we'll have a great time. And then it's just partying for at least a month - catching up for the last 6 years.

And now I'm off to work, good thing is, while at work, it's so quiet, I can do my student assistent tasks. They're still figuring out whether they are gonna pay me at the Faculty of Humanities - but at least it's "two flies in one clap" which I bet is not a proverb in English :)
